About Me

Hi! I'm Melissa and I'm glad you're visiting. Helping students to learn and to love to learn is a passion of mine that I want to share with you. Students reflect the excitement, passion, and sense of achievement they see in you!
I have taught 3 year old's up to first grade for the last 20 years.  I have a bachelors in Early Childhood Development and about to finish my masters in Reading (K-12).
Not only did I struggle to stay on task because of boredom as a student, but then I had a son that struggled with ADHD and later found out he struggled with undiagnosed dyslexia.  Being a teacher and seeing my son's potential and his teachers' frustration made me dig deeper into unlocking the joy of learning for every student. With over 20 years of experience of teaching I am ready to share ideas that will help you reach every child.
When I'm not teaching, I love hiking, kayaking and playing games with my family.  Along with my oldest son that is the root of my inspiration, I have three other children that are climbers and veracious readers.  Other people find it odd how my children beg to go to the library, skip into the library, and walk out with a huge pile of books for the week.

As the idea of becoming a teacher was presented to me, I always rejected it because I associated school with boredom. Then I saw a glimpse into a classroom that was fun and engaging. I thought, perhaps I could do this. Today, I mix learning with games and I not only capture my quick students, but also my challenging students. I eliminate distractions and reduce disruptive behavior because everyone is having fun paying attention! Games are not just about having fun, but also training each child to believe in themselves. A child must first know they can succeed, before they will reach for success. I now have students ...
